Nationally known Public Radio personality Bob Edwards will be a guest host for Our Lincoln, featuring the American Spiritual Ensemble, the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, performing Copland's A Lincoln Portrait with spoken word by Nick Clooney, and the premiere national performance of selections from River of Time, a new Kentucky folk opera about Lincoln as a young man. Over 150 voices of the Lexington Singers, their Children's Choir, and the UK Chorale will lend their voices to this and other selections from music of the Lincoln era. Violinist Mark O'Connor will play some of the haunting music made known widely to the public by filmmaker Ken Burns' The Civil War. Our Lincoln will also include the extraordinary voices of Metropolitan Opera stars Angela Brown, who will perform "My Country 'Tis of Thee" as was sung in 1939 by Marian Anderson on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and Kentuckian Gregory Turay, whose tenor solo will be the world premier of a composition based on the Gettysburg Address. Dramatic selections include Kentucky Repertory Theatre's cameo from One Man's Lincoln, an original drama about Lincoln as told by his law partner, Billy Herndon, and Kentucky Chautauqua(®vignettes voicing the opinions of those who knew Lincoln best. Kentucky's poet laureate, Jane Gentry, will read new poetry dedicated to the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln.
